FINALLY!! It came rather late as the prices are supposed to be reduced last week.
But late better than NEVER!!
November 18th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
OMG I just pumped this morning. Unlucky………….
November 18th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Why always 5 cents. What is wrong with reducing by 13 cents or 8 cents? Just curious. More to come. Reduction too slow.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
yes very agree with those said comments, why always 5 cents and always comes very slow where increase very fast like nobody business..Hope to hear more good news soon…Cheers!!
November 18th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
the shell near my house is listing ‘95 petrol at $1.55
‘98 is below $1.70
think they lowered this afternoon
November 18th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
I think shell lists discounted price … ie 95% of $1.636 = $1.55
November 18th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Haiz. only 5 cents.
Well according to my own petrol records.
In 2007 Nov, when crude was hovering around US$95 a litre of 98 was at S$1.88.
Now when crude is US$55 a litre of 98 cost S$1.71.
I wonder if there will any further reduction the next couple of weeks if crude remains at US$55.
Hmmz….
November 19th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Another round of peanut cut ! I would think that a cut of S$0.10 to S$0.15 should be more sensible and reasonable. After all, our neighbour is more fierce when cutting down the petrol price(at least 5 per cent instead of 5 sens).
Maybe, our neighbouring country is more sensistivity toward relieving the pains of their citizens ! Can we expect such treatment from a first world government ?
November 20th, 2008 at 8:56 am
In Singapore, only increase faster than it decrease. For example:
Now Crude Oil is $61/Barrel Price @ 1.636 (UL95)
If Crude oil is to increase to $70/Barrel, it will increase petrol by 40 cent and make it 2.036
Then 1 day crude oil oil decrease to 61 again, the price would not be 1.636 again. HAHA this is how the government trick us.
Increase will increase damn freaking alot, decrease will only decrease bit by bit, make it MAJIAM they doing their job, actually WE ARE ALL CHEATED BY THEM!
November 20th, 2008 at 9:25 am
I think you cannot blame the government totally in this case. The fuel cartels are the ones playing us, not the government.
I feel super cheated by them(the fuel cartels) who don’t decrease proportionally.
November 20th, 2008 at 10:50 am
There was a report today that M’sian govt made 30 sen with RM2.00 petrol at current crude price. Dunno what grade, but I guess its the 98 octane. That means the cost price is RM1.70 = S$0.72. Add 45 cents govt tax = S$1.17. After discount, the price for 98 is $1.62 = 45 cents profit. Markup of 61% (b4 govt tax)
@mouse - you are probably right. But these oil companies have big investment in SG and govt probably does not want to rub them the wrong way and so they just keep their mouth shut, and that includes CASE.
November 20th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Petrol prices should and must be pegged to a certain percentage of crude oil price after factoring the necessary taxes. In this way there will be peace of mind to all consumers.
November 20th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Actually we can’t shift the blame totally on the cartels. They’re profit organizations that need to answer to different stakeholders. Do you know that every litre of petrol we purchased is tax by the gov? It’s 40cents per litre, pls correct me if i’m wrong.
Won’t decreasing this 40cent tax be a burden off our shoulders?
November 20th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Unfortunately, our govt doesnt think this way…as our govt simply feels that we are rich and can afford to pay . Like our utilities bills, ERP, GST, taxes …are going up and up all the time
Hasnt seen it coming down at all….
its only our sal and cpf been reducing… to think all the labour and trade union big shots urged companies to consider very carefully about retrenchment and yet DBS took the lead to axe 900 staff, followed by NOL about 1000…arent these companies owned by Temasek Hlding? Then who owns Temasek?
I think it is really Singaporeans’ woes and we have no choice but to just accept that this is our life
November 20th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
petrol dipped below $50 today.
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/BUSINESS/11/20/oil.prices/index.html
prices as low as jan 2004. the oil companies have a long way to go to catch up with the drop. petrol has since dropped by 66% since its peak, but prices are only down by 26%. What happened to the other 40%?
Give and take a couple of percentage points as the oil GIANTS need to cover expenses and blahblahblah, petrol prices should hover around $1.10.
If the oil GIANTS complain of increasing costs, why don’t they follow the great companies of our tiny nation DBS, NOL, Citigroup and RETRENCH their executives, managers and directors and save a whopping amount in bonuses this year?
November 20th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
November, Thursday 20 2008 - 10:44:39
Crude Oil
$49.94 ?3.68 6.86%
When will be the next price drop????
November 21st, 2008 at 8:40 am
Oh my god! Oil price is now 57/Barrel! I saw a lot of oil container moving around in singapore town today. I think mostly latest next week our petrol will drop again.
Cross over fingers and it’s NOT another 5 cent reduce. As this time the price of oil is dropping drastically.
November 21st, 2008 at 8:55 am
not just petrol. how about GST, utilities and what have you? they should all go down because oil is down now!
November 21st, 2008 at 9:58 am
wooooooooooot
48
November 21st, 2008 at 10:10 am
most likely we will only see the next price drop next week ba.
November 21st, 2008 at 3:10 pm
The cartels are just playing the waiting game.
Nobody slash, they will take their time to earn more profit before one rival starts slashing.
And they can manipulate end users like us. In their point of view, the longer we anticipate, the happier we are. If price drop happens too frequently, it will be like a norm and we will grumble and demand everytime crude oil drops.
The most important point is that, going to JB is a hassle for most sillyporeans. So we LL have to patronize them. They can sit back and watch us tear their signboard down but the prices are still under their control.
November 21st, 2008 at 5:27 pm
They must be laughing at our posts here…
November 22nd, 2008 at 2:11 am
How to cut our cost of living when our direct and indirect taxes are so high ? All sort of taxes and levies to pay ! GST, petrol tax and a screw up (out of touch) utility rate from Spore Power ?
We are faring worse than many of our neighbouring countries ! S’poreans are the easy targets to milk dry !
Poor souls !
November 22nd, 2008 at 2:17 am
Too much talk cock session from our top and highly paid talents.
These people have lost touch with the men on the streets. How can we ever understand what they are saying when our “poor” HDB can lost money selling 4 room flat @ Seng Kand and Ponggol for S$300k ?
Just wonder how they do their calculation ! Could someone please enlighten me ?
November 24th, 2008 at 9:13 am
If we can’t blame the government and we can’t blame the cartel. Well fine, let the economic do self correction itself.
People who are deperate for low cost petrol, will seek alternate ways to achieve it i.e. enlarge the tank and pump in malaysia, modify the petrol level indicator, go to Singapore black market for cheaper fuel or modify the car for fuel efficient .
Then Singapore petrol demand will drop till the demand and supply meet at equlibrium. So we need not have to blame any one of them and still achieve carry on with our daily activities.
November 24th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Aha at last they are doing their bid. Basically the price is till too high at the pump at the price of crude ranging at $US 50 to 60. Still wondering while it takes so long for them to lower the pump price to its rightful levels. It looks like this guys is dinning out everyday at the expense or our pockets. After all motorist is at a loss. Anyway those car manufacturer has to buck up to increase mileage as we know that a large portion of petrol is not fully utilise and turn to heat. Actually we do not know who controls the engine design to work this way. We are wasting alot of money over our fuel to heat and causes global warming. We have to be very careful that the oxygen in our earth is reducing at an alarming rate and if this is going on then mankind is at the brink of destroying itself. SAVE THE EARTH NOW for your future generation to live on. We have to teach our children to love each other and education is the best medicine for us to understand and reform. Lastly we still don’t understand human develops nuclear power and machine to kill themselves. Kind of stupid. Lets all pray that only good men and women comes to the rescue.
Viva Mankind.
November 24th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Well internal combustion engines are nearing their performance limits already. If you have learnt thermodynamics you would have realised its not possible to hit 100% efficiency.
Want better mileage? Control your right foot.
November 24th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Hmm… Derek. I don’t think i can agree with you.
A large potion of heat generated by burning fuel is not fully utilised to propel our vehicle is actually not due to the engine design. If you have learn a little about thermodynamics, you should know that cars only converts about 30% of heat generated by combustion into energy to move your car. Its a theoretical limit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_Engine#Efficiency). Not due to poor engine design. If you can design a Petrol burning car engine that converts 80%, you will win a nobel prize for sure.
The prime culprit of global warming is also not due to the heat wasted by car. Even if you can convert 100% of heat to kinetic energy to move your car. At the end, everything will still go to heat. What causes the warming is the CO2 that is emitted by the burning which traps heat.
If not for the Nuclear power that generates electricity for some countries. I am sure fuel prices will be even higher than what it is now. Maybe $300/ barrel even at this bad economy time. I feel that as long as they don’t try to develop nuclear weapons. I am fine with it. It helps mankind.
In actual fact. I read some scientific acticles, Scientist are trying to develop machines that generate free energy. They are actually doing every bit to help us solve our energy problem.
I am sorry. I mean no offence. I teach Physics. I cannot don’t do anything if I see wrong Physics being said or used
November 24th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Maintain at a speed of 80kph to enjoy better mileage, also maintain at a RPM between 2000 to 2500.
This will increase your overall mileage, therefore save money
November 24th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
er… ur RPM is not recommended for GEFit.
2000-2500, i-Vtec kicks in.
recommended for best FC will be 1500-2000rpm.
my least RPM during idling is 500-550rpm. cOoL right?
HONDA FIT ROCKS!
November 24th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Honda Fit no matter how you step your accelerator also better FC than many other cars.
November 24th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Honda fit manual best FC lolx
November 24th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
todaY monday the price still haven drop while the crude oil is still at usd49-50 range?
November 24th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
If Australia buys gasoline from Singapore, ship it across the ocean, has a lower value Aussie dollar, is able to sell at A$1.20 per litre for Unleaded petrol, even taking into account government tax, what should our petrol cartel sell per litre at? What should be a fair price. Come on, bring up all the excuses…including operating costs, salaries etc etc….We invite comments from SHELL, ExxonMobil and Caltex. Consumers do not owe these large MNCs profits that run into billions quarterly……they have a responsibility to trade fairly……when is the price coming down to a more reasonable level considering per barrel of crude have dipped below USD50.00.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Omg, the price of crude oil have increased quite a lot as compared to last week. It is US$64/Barrel now.
November 25th, 2008 at 9:12 am
huh? serious or not? last i saw 54 nia
November 25th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
to save fuel, try to use the HHO also called run your car on water..
mayb it works!
November 25th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
keep the comments coming.
if you dont post, the cartels will think that we will settle for current fuel prices.
no way man!!!! even if crude oil prices remain at USD50, pump prices should still be lowered!!
November 25th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Agree…even if at 50, pump price must be lower. Must allow some time for them to make adjustment
November 25th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Anyone tried that HHO thing? I don’t believe it works………
November 26th, 2008 at 8:12 am
well, when i get it installed today i will let everyone knows whether it works or not
November 26th, 2008 at 11:11 am
When you least expect it, the petrol prices will drop. Until that happens, the cartels are laughing all the way to the bank everyday while we queue at the pumps to top up with exorbitant current prices.
Perhaps the government should seriously consider lifting the 3/4 tank rule to enter malaysia!. i am sure, the so called cartels will then suddenly wake up from the slumber they are in. To remain competitive with malaysia..they will in all likelihood begin to slash prices. I am very convinced. But then again, how to convince the government huh?? If they agree..they will lose 40cent per litre tax..
November 26th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Petrol prices here are influenced by the gahmen la, cos they dun want too many cars on the road, so they make driving more and more expensive until we cannot tahan, then sell our cars.
Its not about earning the 40cent petrol tax, its wanting to push everyone to squeeze MRT and bus and dun drive.
Lift the 3/4 rule? Wait long long also dun have… Confirm guarantee plus chop plus stamp…
November 26th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
why don’t car drivers play the oil companies out? lets say all drivers start pumping at one company E.g Shell, then the rest like Caltex, Esso will loose money and have to reduce price to attract customers. A week later drivers patronize Caltex and force Shell to drop..get the idea? After all the prices of oil has dropped from $157 to $56 a barrel and we do not see it reflected at the pump.
November 26th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
haha, you think everyone will be so mad to travel all the way to 1 petrol station ?
the idea here is, you have NO WAYS to win the government of SINGAPORE. they already plan the route for you to follow, and if you don’t follow, then go on your on
November 26th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
If they want to force us to sell car and take public transport, they are quite successful already. You see the $2 COE?
We cannot win the Lee family one. No way……… Not in the next 30 years.
November 27th, 2008 at 8:16 am
The price of crude oil once again hit the high of US$64/barrel for this week.
From a low of US$57 on 23/11/2008 to a high of US$64 today (27/11/2008).
Between this period, the cartel can actually reduce the petrol price already but they are waiting. Now if the media pressure them, they will say the crude oil price goes up a lot, so impossible to reduce further.
November 27th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
how come i have nvr seen crude hit 64 this week? u sure u looking at crude? keke
bloomberg has been showing very consistent level of between 51-54

I am Malaysian. I think Malaysian had been fooled by government by paying government subsidy of RM0.50=S$0.21 in order to ensure the petrol station owner not loss while reducing of petrol price. I think singaporean more thankful to their government that make announcement of reducing of petrol price in every 5 days that differ at Malaysia that make same thing for every 2 weeks in discount of not more RM0.15=S$0.06. Cheers Singaporean for more enjoyable in terms of reducing of petrol prices.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:36 am
Langat,
I don’t quite get what you mean. No matter how we reduce also have to pay more in S’pore than pumping in Msia.
November 30th, 2008 at 1:54 am
Ouh, I know…
But our government have many many excuses while reducing of petrol price. Last week our Deputy Prime Minister said the government don’t want to reducing of petrol price anymore. to ensure sustainable for developing renewable energy instead until now no renewable energy plan is develop.
November 30th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Shall we petition to CASE?
November 30th, 2008 at 9:55 am
sorry the pun, but i don’t think this is a case for CASE.
November 30th, 2008 at 10:21 am
mark my words. once oil goes up, prices will go up.
then again, maybe other countries do the same thing as singapore?
December 1st, 2008 at 8:52 pm
