For the shell V-power for the price of 98 , are the credit card discounts applicable too on top of the discounted price?
http://www.shell.com/home/content/sg-en/shell_for_motorists/events_promotion/vpower_at98price.html
October 31st, 2009 at 2:38 pm
yes there are applicable
November 1st, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Hi,
How come when I use cititbank dividend card at esso, the cashier said no discount voucher given when using citibank dividend card?
November 1st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
yah. esso discount voucher is for show them smile card not citibank card.
November 1st, 2009 at 10:54 pm
No such restrictions at SPC. I got a $4 off my purchase of $72 over and above a discount of 16% which makes the discount above 21%
Shell may have their GIMMICK on one day but SPC still giving such attractive deals everyday. I was a die hard Shell supporter but after having tried SPC I think i will stick to it due to their attractive discounts
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Talking about C.ham, I was one of the discount hunters 2 sats ago. Pumped their so called “fuelsave” but in fact my efficiency dropped from 12 to 10!! That’s bad man.. From fuelsave become “fuelwaste” haha, not taking into account the waiting and engine idling, blah blah blah..
Is this drop in FC just me? Anyone face the same issue too? Or maybe it’s my car trying to “steer” me away from C.ham.. haha
November 2nd, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Hi elerty,
go apply for citibank’s esso mobil privilege card. u will get cashback as well as vouchers discount.
Hi super saver,
use esso mobil card = 5% site + 5% card + 5% cash back + 5.7% voucher + 3.2% smile points = significantly higher than 21% at SPC
November 2nd, 2009 at 1:35 pm
yes, my FC dropped by 1km/l by pumping c chum 98 as well.. not gg there to pump again without significant discount

Yalo if not for the $1/l price that time, it’s not worth.. haha
Maybe it’s really low-grade / off-specs fuel from refinery as one forumer suggested the other time..
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:41 pm
Hi citiman,
I just do not understand y using citi diividend card cannot have the voucher. weird
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:48 pm
my fc oso dropped when using c chum 98 n not using back esso 98. seems that e c chum does a bit of damage n by using esso 98 the fc havent went back to normal. maybe it will after a few more pump of esso 98 to get back e past fc.
really disappointed w e c chum so called new fuel saving formula. maybe 2 wks ago tat $1 promotion, they are selling the old 98 n not e new fuel saving formula?
November 2nd, 2009 at 9:02 pm
CITIMAN u sound like ESSO Marketing Manager…………..how did u calculate 3.2% i thought points are to redeem things………
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:04 pm
hi elerty,
nobody understand how the dumb american bankers think. that’s y they are in such deep s**t today. anyway if you look at the esso offer at citibank’s website there are 3 options
Option 1: Esso + Dividend = 14.5%
Option 2: Dividend = 14.5%
Option 3: all other citibank = 10%
only option 1 allows u the discount with vouchers. damn crab, right?
hi super saver,
750 pts = $30 petrol voucher (the best deal. the rest of the gifts not worth redeeming).
$30 / (750 pts * $1.25 /pt) * 100% = 3.2%. me no marketing manager. no manager in my job title. just trying to share the best deal around.

Interestingly, I was also pumping esso before going for the c.ham S$1/l offer! Hope our FC goes back to normal after a few pumps!

I did used vpower b4 several times b4 when it’s priced at e price of 98 to test test. overall, i wont say really increase in term of power but at least e fc wont drop so drastically as compared to the new fuel saving c hum 98…
i really start to believe probably c hum is using tat promotion to clear its’ old 98 stock but if tat is true, i will say c hum is really damn stupid. it will not make those whom wish to turn back to c hum to turn away frm them forever…
really hope a few more pump of esso 98 will get back my old fc.

Does anyone know where to get the Caltex $3 voucher for $50 petrol pumped? When i went to caltex they say they don’t have it in the station. I feel like the voucher system in Esso is much more better than Caltex.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:30 am
Hi citiman
for the citi dividend card,
3.**5% Rebate will be reflected in your next monthly billings
is it will accumulate as dividend dollars in which a chq wil be paid to you once $50 is hit, or direct deduction from next mthly billing?
November 4th, 2009 at 11:24 am
citigirl. A cheque will be mailed out every 4 months subject to minimum $50. Otherwise. it will accumulate and be carried forward to next period. You’ll need to watch the last cycle to ensure no expiry i.e. ensure that you have a least $50.
November 4th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
My low fuel warning indicator was on when I pumped 46 litres of Shell 98 on Saturday morning during the $1 promotion.
I had always been pumping Esso 95.
Immediately, I felt a lack of power, as if my tyres are underinflated. Pick up was slower and felt like the car was dragging. Overall I did not feel any additional power despite it being 98RON, but the loss in power was obvious.
Late last night, my low fuel warning indicator came on and I pumped 45 litres of Esso 95 and immediately I felt the power again.
Even on a cold engine this morning, my car engine felt more powerful than running on Shell 98 at operational temperature.
There was also a 5% increase in fuel consumption on Shell 98 Fuelsave.
There was no change in my driving pattern and habit.
I felt this new Shell Fuelsave petrol is disappointing and inferior, and would not use it again.
November 4th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
Hi citigirl
A few months ago, there used to be a 3% rebate for citibank card on esso. This rebate consolidated and given back to you once a month.
They have scrapped this system now. Instead they give you a 5% discount on the spot.
Just to explain how it works if you are using the citibank esso card together with dividend card
Basis: $70 of fuel on the pump meter
Less $7 (5% site, 5% citibank esso card)
Less $5 (voucher)
Appearing in your credit card receipt: $58
You also get $2.90 cashback which you will receive in a check once you accumulate $50
46.4 smiles points which you can redeem for $30 worth of fuel once you reach 750 pts
if u are using just the dividend card
Basis: $70 of fuel on the pump meter
Less: $7 (5% site and 5% citibank card)
Less $0 (Vouchers cannot be used together with normal citibank cards(
Appearing on your receipt:$63
Cashback = $3.15
Smiles points = $50.4
Really complicated, right? Cant stand their crazy system
November 4th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
unlike most of you who tried Shell petrol, for mine, there is actually petrol savings.Went for the $1 promo. My driving pattern is the same as before. Previously i used to pump Esso and compared to Shell, i feel Shell fuelsave does improve my car fuel comsumption. Hence for me i switched to Shell….i got the same feedback from my gfs and brother too. I guess everyone is different. BTW i do not support any companies…i go for the one which gives me the best FC without reducing my engine power
November 4th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
have same view with Jazzgal. My car FC has improved after i switch from Esso Syn 98 to Shell FuelSave 98. I ensure my driving pattern did not change during the switch to have a fair comparision. Unless my car FC system screw up , it does give me fuel savings.
November 4th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
Guess everyone’s experience is different.. But it does seem extreme, there are some (like me) who experience huge efficiency drop.. And there are others who experience much better efficiency..
Guess it’s really what the car wants.. So now I know.. My car is an esso car.. hehe..
November 4th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
mine was worse off as well… been pumping esso 95 all the while but aft pumping c hum 98 during the promo.. the engine felt watery instead of more power and smoother… i used to pump esso 98 2 years ago before switching to esso 95, but esso 98 feels like got more power and much smoother…
both esso 95 and 98 beats c hum 98 hands down for me… so unless c hum got promo… i def wun pump c hum!!
November 5th, 2009 at 7:16 am
i also got the same problem… FC drop 1.5 after switch back from C Hum 98 to esso 95…
hoping it will go back better….
even if c hum got such promo again, i will not go… dammm… waste time, waste $ waste fuel
November 5th, 2009 at 8:41 am
mine oso suffer, used to get 16km per liter with esso 95
pump full tank during promo and now work out to be 13.5km/liter,
cant believe it myself, no go for chum ever again, fuel saving my foot!
regret wasting time for stupid hassle and now, money.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:42 am
i pumped Fuelsave 98 because of the promotion but also saw no increase in power or FC and will be going back to Esso 95 for my next topup.
So far it seems that Fuelsave 98’s capabilities are very arbitrary. There is no clear outcome whether it really does conserve petrol in real life usage. At the “up to one litre” savings for a minimum of fifty litres pump (read “at most 2% savings under test conditions”), my feel is that it really will not give us any benefit in Singapore’s start-stop traffic conditions.
Just go ahead and pump from individual’s preferred petrol vendor for the next topup. The term fuelsave is just another marketing tactic like techron, synergy, etc.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:47 am
sigh… dunno the rumour on inferior quality true or not leh..
i experience loss of power with Shell 98 $1-promo. then got once experience car jerking while moving off, like as if going to die on me, maybe left 2 bar of petrol. i using esso 5000 previously. now after changing back to esso 5000, no such problem.
not worth saving $1, if it is going to damage my engine. i don’t trust shell anymore. After some thinking, when Shell is losing money, how can Shell gives out $1 petrol… fishy… wierd… my poor car
November 5th, 2009 at 10:52 am
actually shell only promise 2% improvement in fuel economy. that is very little. Imagine if u have 50 $2 notes in your wallet. Some one then steal 1 pc from u. Can u tell the difference? To me it is just a marketing ploy.
Sg road condition also vary fm day to day. Eg raining, PIE jam, u blame lousy fuel for poor economy? Eg today sway. Kena every traffic light on way to work. U blame lousy fuel again?
There is no way we consumers can replicate the consistent the lab conditions to verify what the oil companies claim.
November 5th, 2009 at 10:57 am
As i said earlier on, my fc went up cos of using the c hum 98 during the $1 promo. However, power wise I dun really feel any difference maybe I’m not as sensitive as you guys. Hence i still think juz go pump which ever give the most discount or cheapest petrol. So far I wont go back to c hum since their discount sucks n higher fc for the time being unless $1 / litre is like everyday kind of promo then I will go back to use it again.
November 5th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
As my car was aging after being driven around for coming 2 years and clocking in 55000km, the fuel consumption suffered a bit and went from 15.5 km per litre to 14.5 km per litre. Always been sticking to C ham petrol with some KAltex top up.
If you FC dropped becos of the C ham promotional petrol which could be old stock, it could be true since they never tell you what they REALLY give you. They give you petrol, you give them money, simple.
In fact why i continued with C ham was that a week before they announced the new fuelsave petrol, i topped up and realised that my FC shot up to 16.4 km / litre considering i dun really change my driving habit, drive to and from work, pick up wifey and head home.
then i continued and the FC has stabilised to 15.5 km / litre. I din get the chance to get C ham petrol at $1 / litre
either the new fuel save is working or we cant be sure they done sth to the pump meters? Can they ? I do not know since i have spotted a stick on small metal plate that says the pumps have been certified by some weights and measure authority of singapore. Any bro or sis can verify on this ?
So SUPPPOSE, ASSume they give you more petrol than their pumps indicate, some sort of a discount still, you will logically calculate that your FC has improved. Then , there is no breakthrough in technology ? I don’t know man!
jus my 2 cents worth
November 5th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
just to highlight all pumps for all petrol stations are verfied by the govt , hence no companies will cheat the consumers ie less litres as per indicated in the pump.
November 5th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
Was in the oil industry for a while, this is what I know:
All custody meters (such as those in petrol stations, bunkering stations, etc) in Singapore need to be certified by the Weights and Measures Office in SPRING, and is governed by the Weights and Measures Act. This is done so that companies will not deliberately tamper with their flowmeters to cheat consumers.. That’s for oil..
However, I’m not sure if this applies to the mama shop in our neighborhood where they sell their nuts / beans / sweets and stuff by weight.. I heard some of them actually tamper their scale to give the perception that customers get what they pay for, while in fact we get less..
Sharing my 2 cents
November 5th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
seeing so much unhappiness with $1 promo…
makes me wonder when the next promo comes along will this be forgotten and all roads are jam up again?
bad fuel, but cheap… will consumer bite?
i hate all these jams, kana in aug, 1 left turn 20mins!!!
since then i don’t pump this brand
November 6th, 2009 at 7:09 am
okiie, that’s nice to hear. However, are there any seals to make it tamper proof? or is it as simple as pulling an electronic switch or pressing a button? Since a lot of things thesedays are controlled by electronics
