November 20th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Caltex is crap. Raise the price for one day. Might as well don’t raise lah.
Hope those who pump at Caltex yesterday can get refund for the difference as a goodwill. Or else boycott Caltex!
Cheers!
November 20th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
They should decrease 4 cents in order to gain back motorist confidence. Anyway I think the “Act Smart” decision cause their reputation twart by the consumer.
November 20th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
CAN WE GET THE AUTHORITY (CASE) TO LOOK INTO THIS CALTEX WRONGDOING TO FOOL CONSUMERS?

Think Caltex wants to test the market….
But unfortunately, oil price dropped USD$2 last night and the rest decide not to raise their prices.

admin updated the site at 11 am but still the goondus went to pump at caltex when the rest have not raised prices.
November 20th, 2009 at 5:30 pm
The most they stamped $2 off on the yesterday receipt or give vouchor for the next pump. $0.04 x 50 litres tank on average.
November 20th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
Dear Caltex Singapore,
How would your customer think of your coporate integrity? Do you really value your customers?
Please do not hope that by increasing your pump price, your competitors will follow suit. It does not work that way because we all know who has the best fuel quality here. If not, why wouldn’t ExxonMobil increase pump price immediately after you!
Your marketing strategy to promote “unbeatable cleaning power” simply won’t work here. If one would visit the website: toptiergas[dot]com; we will immediate see Shell AND your mother company, ChevronTexaco. Both of you are already providing top tier detergent fuel. Wouldn’t it be a little wierd for you to carry on your campaign?
Shell is different. How? I shouldn’t say. It’s very obvious.
November 20th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
blah blah blah. next will be shell, then mobil, then SPC. so boycott all companies?
November 20th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
This is how it goes in sgp…live with it…or die trying…it’s not going to change anything…NATO…no action…talk only…do some actions if u all can…dun be NATO
November 20th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Should have more competitors in the petrol retailing business.
November 21st, 2009 at 12:54 am
any regulatory department monitoring Caltex’s compliance to customer service?
November 21st, 2009 at 12:54 am
now every one support shell? and boycott caltex? last time everyone say boycott shell?
November 21st, 2009 at 1:05 am
The last time everyone says boycott Shell hoping that their retail pump prices would decrease so as to make their fuel more affordable.
Now, everyone says to boycott Caltex to because Caltex anyhow increase and decrease retail pump prices.
Same intended action, different underlying motives.
November 21st, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Can anyone here confirm if Caltex got do any action for those that pump on Thursday?
November 21st, 2009 at 6:25 pm
If they would like to make an offer for those who pump on that day, I think it would be released through the media and papers already. I don’t really think that they will do anything about it.
November 21st, 2009 at 7:34 pm
My goodness.
get over it.
if u pumped 50L, times $0.04 = $2 only.
Like tat also want refund?
Drive to where ever they give the refund alredi use up more petrol most prob…
November 21st, 2009 at 10:51 pm
caltex want to recover back what they have spent for the promotion coupon…
what a despicable act!
November 22nd, 2009 at 10:28 pm
up price then down again… that is the most idiotic thing i have ever seen… i am really confuse by how the company can allow such thing to happen… hahaha

Dean Says:
November 20th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
blah blah blah. next will be shell, then mobil, then SPC. so boycott all companies?
i boycott any company who rise first until the next smart alex start a price up or pump at any brand who initial a price down until another company start a new price drop …
i think that is the only way to prevent them from suka suka up and wait long long to drop
just doing my part for a more reasonable deal..
we must unite…
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:38 am
Shit i pump at that increased price.
suka suka increase.
Any one complain and managed to get a refund?
Please share here.
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:59 am
those petrol companies should put clearly their price panel just like wat shell has did….
people might not be aware of the increased price until they have already pump up to their full tank.
November 23rd, 2009 at 4:20 pm
i have checked. No refund. Going to switch to Shell next time.
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:23 pm
1. Product price movement is not dependent on today’s or yesterday’s crude prices. A cargo from the Middle East takes 20 to 40days to ship to Singapore.
2. ChevronTexaco, formed after a merger between Chevron (from California) and Texaco (from Texas), owns Caltex. If ChevronTexaco produces Top Tier Detergent Gasoline, what do you think Caltex is selling? What do you think ExxonMobil is selling? Its clear who’s giving the best deals.
3. If a barrel of crude oil (159 Litres) is USD80, and a barrel of gasoline is USD95, then 1L of gasoline is only 85 singapore cents. What happened?
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:38 pm
Hi k1478,
For your point 1, actually, doesn’t matter where the cargo is from, and doesn’t matter how long it takes to be delivered to Singapore, because they would have hedged using time spreads (actually, the refinery also takes time to refine the crude into gasoline, but this time lag doesn’t matter as much as the refining margins). Of cos, a contango market or backwardation market would produce different effects on the final prices.. Also, would be dependant if purchase pricing is on FOB, CIF, C&F or DES..
Your point 3 is a good point, our government imposes a levy on our gasoline retail market, so a certain percentage goes to them.. The remaining are profits to the oil biggies after distribution and staff costs..
November 24th, 2009 at 3:24 am
lol. don make me laugh k1478. hedging of prices is done by companies with the petrol/oil suppliers. and not oil suppliers to whoever u think they are. they are the ones supplying the petrol, so who do u think they hedge the price with? .. funny.
November 24th, 2009 at 8:55 am
It’s hard to believe, but in fact, even oil produces hedge their physical products. What you are referring to are companies hedging their fuel prices to CONTROL THEIR COST. But these oil biggies are actually hedging for a different reason, to LOCK IN THEIR PROFITS..
Hedging is normally done via paper derivatives, and usually done either via other companies direct, or via a bank (OTC market)..
November 24th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Hi Foundation & lousy car,
Actually my first point was just a lame response to another lame comment further up. Sorry about that.
As for whether crude purchased was on FOB, CIF etc, I believe that was not the driver. Anyway most of the crude used by Exxon, Shell and SRC are FOB from Middle East.
The logic behind all these price movements or non-movements are simple:
1) a petrol station needs to be refilled.
2) competition for market share
As for hedging, all oil majors and oil trading companies (eg Vitol) play with that all the time. However I dont really see how it becomes a key factor in retail price movements here.
And if someone manage to find some info on how the pricing formula or the excise tax on gasoline is like, please share with us.
Happy driving folks
November 24th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Hi k1478,
No problem, just some information sharing here.. We do this all the time, and at the end of the day, just want a best deal to fuel our cars..
Cheers!
November 25th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
i wonder if “boycott” works. bcoz who really rally to shouts of boycott? forumers? only the minority pal..
the only real, effective (but not easy, close to impossible due to the cartel’s lobbying and resistance) way to up theirs is to switch to electric cars. one wonders why electric cars are sooooo slow in seeing mass market daylight wen it can be done 20yrs ago.
oh did i mentioned cartel?
