Crude at $72+ … prices stagnant
January 31st, 2010 at 1:23 pm
really terrible right ? but since demand for petrol is inflexible in the economic sense, i.e. when your tank is low, you need to top up so technically, as an individual driver up against a cartel of companies, we have no bargaining power except to be at their mercy.
as for the discount given to credit cards, does anyone not think it’s added advantage to the more well to do motorists. well, one may argue that if you can afford a car, you definitely qualify for credit cards. However, what about those on motorbikes who dun meet the income requirement to own a credit card? or small business owners trying to top up their mini petrol vans.
January 31st, 2010 at 2:53 pm
I am student and I can sign up for Citiclear card for 10% discount at esso with 0 income..
January 31st, 2010 at 6:11 pm
Crude oil price had dropped to USD72.62 and the petrol price still remain unchanged, isn’t this unfair pricing practising ???
January 31st, 2010 at 7:58 pm
We can’t do anything except at the mercy. They don’t drop, we also LL.
Can CASE do something?? I guess can, but they won’t.
IMO…. Try drive lesses, go place only when ness. Don’t anyhow spend $$, save abit.
January 31st, 2010 at 8:36 pm

I can sense price fixing here, no change in the petrol price even though crude already hit new record low, gomen watchdog, pls do smtg..divert your attention and resources from catching small sistics to catching these few big fishes here..
February 1st, 2010 at 12:13 am
I remember read somewhere that travel agency got fined for price fixing or some coaches to Malaysia….(don’t quite remember).
Maybe Petrol company have their own legal price fixing?
February 1st, 2010 at 12:13 am
oops I sense i have angered a pappy lap dogy here….
February 1st, 2010 at 1:03 am
The price will stay stagnant now… even crude oil go lower, the price will still remain. Until crude oil goes up, then petrol price will go up. Our petrol cartel will only see crude oil up… their eye always close on crude oil price goes down.
Or rather, their computer system cannot see crude oil down. Only will alert when crude oil goes up..
Haix… why life is so miserable ?

February 3rd, 2010 at 10:51 am
Heard insider info that Esso will be offering a short three day discount of 8cents over the CNY period as a good will gesture for all poor motorists who have been involuntarily supporting the artificially inflated prices.
February 3rd, 2010 at 3:19 pm
no chance of price drop liao - crude up to near 77 and the big 4 will close both eyes and earn all the way till March and beyond.
we can only lppl and see if they increase again if crude passes 80 again (they should’nt because the prices now are based on 80 crude aredi liao!).
February 3rd, 2010 at 4:52 pm
SPC’s $3 off for every $50 pumped promotion is still ongoing. Not sure when the offer is good until.

Or spend less on food or clothings lo…
February 4th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
good thing i drive an axio, every 40L tank lasts >600km, every mth less than $150!
February 4th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
I do know of people who complain about a few cents increase every litre of fuel, and then still spend hundreds or thousands on car stickers or car audio.
Wonder why they are complaining.. LOL..
February 4th, 2010 at 5:13 pm
tj,
sometimes it is not about the few cents increase.. it is just that people are not happy to be ripped off.. if there is proper benchmarking of petrol price to crude oil, i guess most people would happily accept the increment.
February 5th, 2010 at 12:09 pm
Yes, its the unjustified - non-sensical price fluctuations that most are frustrated about, not so much as increase or decrease. As it has been shown, when price of crude heads north, SURELY petrol price takes a hike. And when crude prices comes down, as in the current instance, for the past mth or so, no price reductions. So it seems they are inflating prices to cushion for times when the crude is really down and they have no choice but to reduce petrol price. That is an observation. And yes read lately, Esso - made ‘billions’ in profits - where do u think all these comes from?
