What’s the point of providing the station discounts and promotions. Just lower the price to reflect the real price.
Is the true price of 95 Octane 2.09 or 1.986?
March 29th, 2011 at 3:38 pm
JJ, agree with you totally. Should reduce price or reflect the real price instead of pronotions.
March 30th, 2011 at 4:49 pm
haha, JJ, the real price for 95 Octane is 1.965 actually - SPC’s price as shown by petrolwatch after house discount. but before the $2 off every $40 vouchers.
anyway i did some rough calculations comparing S’pore petrol prices using 98 Octane wif Malaysia’s 97Ron:
1. Malaysia’s price should be the benchmark market price cos there is no subsidy or tax now - estimated at SGD$0.80.
2. SG price after roughly 24% discount is at about $1.60 (including the $0.40 petrol tax and $0.15 GST that goes to our dominant government). So after taking out the PAP taxes, it is at about $1.05.
3. The $0.25 per litre difference ($10 per 40 litre tank) - just treat it as higher land/rental cost, higher profit margin for the Big4 (is there a fifth petrol brand in SG?), higher manpower costs (we have higher qualified PRCs and uncles working in our petrol stations?) and higher costs for safety and cleanliness (our petrol stations smell nicer, aircon is colder and newer than Malaysia? Less likelihood of getting robbed?).
4. BUT, the bulk of the difference is still the $0.55 in taxes ($22 per 40 litre). These goes to the government’s coffers, including paying for their high salaries. They said it had been debated, agreed and voted for. So they don’t accept any arguement on it now. Too late.
5. Or is it too late? Elections are around the corner. Enuf said.

That’s what marketing all about. They made use of so call “promotion” to lure us to their trap. That’s where they know we will still pay no matter how much it is being increase as we got no choice (bo bian mah!).
As there’s alot of thing need the use of petrol. They might be singing this songs “Killing me softly” with their finger.

KNN, we kanna so bad some from the petrol hike, and yet gahmen now control the 3/4 rule so tight, I got a fren kanna catch recently, sigh..be careful fellow drivers, we lan lan need to pay for the high price so gahmen can get higher petrol tax to sponsor some young 27 yo MP to perform some a-go-go dance during election day.

Yes please keep to the 3/4 rule as I know customs is now very on the ball on this. Dun try to save a few dollars and end up paying huge fine. Not worth it.
