My calculation is based on James’s contribution.
I used this formula for my petrol tracking.
* Citibank Dividend Visa/Mastercard with Esso Mobil Privilege Card
ESSO - 9% (Station Discout 5% + Smile Member 4%) + 5% (Citi Card) = 14%
14% + 4.3% (5% CitiDividend cash Rebate) + 2.24% (Smile Points) = 20.54%
ie: I pumped Esson 8000, 32Litres
Bill charged to Citibank - $64.41
14% deducted straight at the station counter => calculated 5% (station Discount) + 4% (Smile Card discount + 5% (Citi dividend card)
therefore 14% of $64.41 = $10.48
5% CitiDividend cash Rebate of $64.41= $3.2205
Saving without inclusive the 2.24% (Smile Points) is $10.48+$3.2205= $13.7005
% Saving without inclusive the 2.24% (Smile Points) is (13.7005/64.41) * 100 = 21.2707%
Point = 32

Sorry guys, the previous post i made has some mistake
here is the amended one
My calculation is based on James’s contribution.
I used this formula for my petrol tracking.
* Citibank Dividend Visa/Mastercard with Esso Mobil Privilege Card
ESSO - 9% (Station Discout 5% + Smile Member 4%) + 5% (Citi Card) = 14%
14% + 4.3% (5% CitiDividend cash Rebate) + 2.24% (Smile Points) = 20.54%
ie: I pumped Esson 8000, 32Litres
Bill charged to Citibank - $63.57 (Actual bill is 73.92)
14% deducted straight at the station counter => calculated 5% (station Discount) + 4% (Smile Card discount + 5% (Citi dividend card)
therefore 14% of $73.92 = $10.35
5% CitiDividend cash Rebate of $63.57= $3.1785
Saving without inclusive the 2.24% (Smile Points) is 10.35 + 3.1785= 13.5285
% Saving without inclusive the 2.24% (Smile Points) is ( 13.5285/73.92) * 100 = 18.301

petrol price just dropped 3 cents at esso.
April 14th, 2012 at 8:21 pm
Happy that my formula is useful for you. Just wish to add is that the smile % is sensitive to actual petrol price, direct discount & rebate. So different petrol grade does generate different final discount. However the difference is small.

Agree that James’ calculation is the best. Not like a lot that just go out there and shout “esso is the cheapest” or “SPC gives the best deal” without looking at the rest.
In fact james’ short calculation better than what admin posted. Gives you full page of info, but in the end you still do not which is the best deal
