think after case questioned if there is price fixing.. they intentionally have some 1 cent difference in the price adjustments and wait for time gap before adjusting… so its “so-called, no price fixing cartel”…
now there is genuine 1 cent difference between SPC 95 and Esso 95
July 18th, 2012 at 2:03 am
Caltex website already show price increase. 95 is now $2.02 at caltex.
Rest will increase price also i think.

@James, in your listing:
Shell - 10% (Site & Escape Member) + 0% ($0 off $50) + 4.5% (5% SMART$ Rebate) + 1.979% (Escape Points) + 0.327% (UOB UNI$) = 16.806%
Understand UOB Platinum/One card gives 5% SMART$ Rebate on amount charged to card (i.e. net amount after station discount) but you have converted it to be based on Gross which is 4.5%, before summing all up.
So for Escape Points, should it be similarly computed/converted it to be based on Gross, in which case, it will be 600*2.13= 1278 (assuming 98UL). Therefore, 20/1278 = 1.565%, slighly less than the 1.979%, correct?

Anyone can confirm wad is the esso price?
July 18th, 2012 at 10:31 am
@Oowc My calculation is on the amount you spend after all the discount and base on 95 price and before the current price increased.
Since you get 10% discount + 4.5% rebate, you actually paid only $2.13*85.5% = $1.8212 for Grade 98
So 600*1.8212 = 1092.7. Therefore $20/1092.7 = 1.83%

I had assume ESSO has up its price to match Shell since yulee state so at 6:51am. SPC base on its eb site price is still $2 for grade 95. The rest is $2.02
Base on the latest price pump price of Grade 95, the discount sumarry
SPC - 10% (Site & SPC & U) + 5% (POSB Card Discount) + 0% ($0 off $40) + 2.55% (3% Everyday$ rebate) = 17.55%
ESSO - 9% (Site & Smile Member) + 8% (DBS-ESSO Card Discount) + 6% ($3 off $50) + 2.572% (Smiles Points) + 0.348% (DBS Points) = 25.92%
ESSO - 9% (Site & Smile Member) + 5% (Citi Card Discount) + 6% ($3 off $50) + 4% (5% Dividen Rebate) + 2.606% (Smiles Points) = 26.606%
Shell - 10% (Site & Escape Member) + 0% ($0 off $50) + 4.5% (5% SMART$ Rebate) + 1.93% (Escape Points) + 0.327% (UOB UNI$) = 16.757%
DBS-ESSO (>250 littre per month) = 25.92% +0.9% = 26.82%
ESSO EMPC (>250 littre per month) = 26.606% +0.912% = 27.518%
Shell (>$300 per month) = 16.757% +3.333% (UOB ONE Card Bonus) = 20.09%
July 18th, 2012 at 10:39 am
For those that do not have the $3 voucher for ESSO-AMK/Thomson
ESSO - 9% (Site & Smile Member) + 8% (DBS-ESSO Card Discount) + 0% ($0 off $50) + 2.386% (Smiles Points) + 0.348% (DBS Points) = 19.734%
ESSO - 9% (Site & Smile Member) + 5% (Citi Card Discount) + 0% ($0 off $50) + 4.3% (5% Dividen Rebate) + 2.424% (Smiles Points) = 20.724%
DBS-ESSO (>250 littre per month) = 19.734% +0.835% = 20.569%
ESSO EMPC (>250 littre per month) = 20.724% +0.848% = 21.572%

With price difference for 95 petrol at station, I think that you have to look at the NET price rather than the percentage discount… hmm…

@ James,
I think your calculation is not an apple to apple comparison.
Take for example Esso (w/o vouchers $3 off $50 ; without added 35% more points only when you reach >250 litres per month to simply calculation) :
Using your eg:
ESSO - 9% (Site & Smile Member) + 8% (DBS-ESSO Card Discount) + 0% ($0 off $50) + 0.348% (DBS Points) + 2.386% (Smiles Points) = 19.734%
This in itself cannot be used as a reference discount for every visit you pump at ESSO (say 60litres of fuel per visit). You can only use :
ESSO - 9% (Site & Smile Member) + 8% (DBS-ESSO Card Discount) + 0% ($0 off $50) + 0.348% (DBS Points)
= 17.348%. { 2.386% shld be separate. For the 2.386%, are u using 750 L to exchange for $30 fuel vouchers?}
Hence, how long before you reach 750 litres (I am assuming u pump average of 60 litres for each full tank). Hence if I go once a week top-up, I need 12.5 weeks to get the extra 2.386% on 1 particular top up)
Your calculation seems to suggest that if I go pump Esso, I get 19.734% every time.
To have an apple to apple comparison, u need to compare upfront Discounts + Rebates given at each top-up. Points to exchange Vouchers shld be clearly stated separately that only when u accumulate the required amt (which can take up to 12.5 weeks +/-), then u get that extra % off in a 1 time visit to the station. This is applicable to all petrol stations calculations….. basic tiers to have a simple apple to apple calculation and more advanced tiers indicated separately. Can u do that so it is an apple to apple calculation?
July 18th, 2012 at 7:31 pm
1 more thing, I suggest if you use basic tiers to calculate, best if u can separate individual grades so we can tell more accurately which grades is the cheapest from which company… using of discounts gives me a headache
July 19th, 2012 at 1:24 am
Everytime LITRE you pump, you get $0.04 for smile points discount ($30/750L), so every LITRE is $0.04 off, that is additional 2.4% ($0.04 out of $1.66 after your 17% upfront), it doesn’t matter how long you take to pump 750L, calculation is per LITRE you pump you get 2.4%.
July 19th, 2012 at 8:54 am
@lppl that is exactly how I derive my computation! Thanks!
July 19th, 2012 at 9:20 am
@net to further explain, if u put the smile point aside and use it every 12.5 week then you get more then 40% discount on that particular pump instead of 2+%. Please see below
Pump $60. You pay 60*2.02 = 121.2
14% off you you get 104.23
You offset you point for $30 so you sign only 74.23
Don’t forget you will still earn 5% rebate of 74.23 which is 3.71 74.23-3.71=70.52
70.52/121.2 =58.18% which is almost 42% discount
